Mentoring

Mentorship is near and dear to my heart. I would not be where I am without generous mentorship and sponsorship along the way, especially from women of color. Authentic mentorship is really what distinguishes surviving vs. thriving in academia (and this world) as underrepresented individuals . I want undergraduate and graduate students, and early career scholars to thrive.

If you’re interested in working with me as your PhD advisor, send me an email at yalidy.matos@rutgers.edu. If you’re an undergraduate student looking for resources, see below.

“Yalidy is an exceptional mentor who has helped me tremendously in the few times I have been her mentee. She has been instrumental in developing my understanding for the hidden curriculum. Yalidy is especially generous with her wisdom and experience as a woman of color navigating graduate school, the job market, and the tenure track (especially as a newly-tenured faculty member).”
